‘Tòcco' was the nickname used to identify the families who lived, as tenants, in the old house in Via Fornace Vecchia 2 in Volpago del Montello, cultivating the surrounding land. When our ancestor Carlotta Pedrocchi, in 1862, bought this property from Giulia Sernaggiotto-Legrenzi of Montebelluna, the tenant was a certain Borsato Giovanni known as 'Tòcco'. So it appears from the original deeds of sale.
The peasant families who lived in this house until the 1950s were always identified with this nickname, and Toti Saccardo-Pavanini, our mother, wanted to keep this name to identify not a family but the geographical location of the house and fields when she inherited them on her father's death in 1968. That is why the house is called 'il Tòcco', as is the farm, and the wine has been named Tòcco.
In the description of the cultivation taking place on this land in the documents of 1862, ample reference is made to the vineyard and wine. The vineyard has been maintained and cared for by our family to this day. The house is currently owned by siblings Carla and Giulio, and the fields are owned by Giulio and Andrea. The farm established after 2015 is a sole proprietorship and is registered with the Padua Chamber of Commerce (REA PD-439427).
Over the years, part of the land has been sold. Now the fields cover about 2 hectares, half of which are planted with vines. In the other half, a small olive grove and an orchard with native and old varieties of plants have been planted to reconstruct the 'brolo' according to the Veneto tradition.
